About Manville Democratic Club
Our Mission
The Manville Democratic Club is focused on engaging residents and voters to become active in their community through responsible leadership and activism. We encourage all Democrats to get involved and to actively support change in Manville. We are dedicated to promoting democratic principles by identifying, supporting, and promoting democratic candidates at the local, county, state and national level.
Our Goals
- To understand the issues impacting our community and work to address those at the local, county and state level.
- To engage with our community and develop initiatives promoting civic engagement and good government while staying focused on our democratic principles.
- To be active and supportive of our community.
- To identify candidates who will reflect strong Democratic values and principles.
Executive Committee
Roberta G Walters
Chair
Roberta G Walters is the District 5 committeeperson and was recently elected Chair. After graduating from East Stroudsburg University, Roberta moved to Virginia and South Carolina before returning to her hometown in 2012.
An active advocate, Roberta works tirelessly for reproductive healthcare and family planning rights for all women and families. She is currently President of the Somerset County Federation of Democratic Women, Secretary for the NJ Federation of Democratic Women, member of the Somerset County LGBTQ+ Advisory Board, member of the Manville Recreation Committee, Manville OEM and Manville's CART representative.
Roberta currently works as a QA Manager and has been with her company for 28 years. An avid animal lover, she is a certified therapy dog handler and together with Bella (her therapy dog), they visit schools and libraries where they run programs to assist students with their reading. In her spare time, Roberta enjoys anything beach related, yelling at the Giants during football season and attending art class where she enjoys painting.
Patricia A Zamorski
Vice Chair
Patricia A. Zamorski is Vice Chair of the Manville Democratic Club. She is a lifelong resident born and raised in Manville and is very active in her community. Pattie is a former councilwoman, and is currently the committeeperson for District 3.
Pattie is very excited to be able to move forward with the Democratic Club and looks forward to working with her fellow members to help bring Manville to new potential.
Erin Risch
Treasurer
Erin Risch is the District 7 committeeperson and Treasurer. A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Erin has a degree in Supply Chain Management and is currently employed as an Inventory Optimization Manager. She has extensive experience in supply planning, warehouse management, project management, forecasting, and inventory optimization.
Erin was appointed to the Manville Recreation Committee in 2021, and she is active within her community. In her spare time, she enjoys spoiling her rescue dog Memphis, painting every surface of her house, and listening to audiobooks for a book club. An avid traveler, she is always looking forward to planning her next trip.
Chris Basista
Communications Chair
Chris Basista is the district 5 committeeperson and MDC's Communications Chair. He is a lifelong Manville resident. Chris holds a MBA with a concentration in telecommunications from Keller Graduate School of Management. He is an entrepreneur, having started his first online marketing business at age 15, which is still in operation today. He also owns an online radio station, and an e-commerce business.
In his free time, you can find Chris seeking out the next big hits for radio, and continuing to build upon his knowledge in technology.
Christine Sokoloski
Secretary
Christine was appointed MDC Secretary. She is a resident of the Lost Valley section for just over 2 decades and currently represents District 3 as a Committeeperson. Christine holds a BA in Journalism and an MS in technical communication. She is currently a creative director at a healthcare advertising agency and has experience in marketing and healthcare strategy and policy. Because of her work in healthcare, Christine is a strong supporter of women's issues, specifically reproductive health.
You can often find Christine jogging or biking through the Valley, hiking in the Sourlands, or on a yoga mat finding her inner peace.
Committee Members
Committeepersons lead the party, identify candidates, and set goals.
What is a Committeeperson?
Committeepersons are elected or appointed to represent their respective voting districts within the town they live. They are responsible for supporting their local Democratic Clubs and Committees.
- Provide representation during monthly Committee meetings
- Help identify, screen, and support local Democratic candidates
- Participate in canvassing and reaching out to voters prior to an election
- Encourage voters in their district to get out and vote
- Serve as a Poll Watcher/Challenger during local elections
- Attend, whenever possible, Borough Council and other meetings of boards, committees, or commissions
- Vote during the county Democratic Convention
